What’s New in the 2023 Civic Type R?
The 2023 Honda Civic Type R looks more conventional than its wildly designed precursor, but that shouldn’t stop it from becoming more thrilling to drive. The Civic Type R is only available as a hatchback and is powered by the same turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the previous model, but with 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The front-wheel-drive Type R’s six-speed manual transmission has also been upgraded to suit the greater power, and Honda has improved brake cooling to help manage heavy wear-and-tear.

The engine of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R (CTR) produces 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This represents a 9-horsepower and 15-pound-feet increase over the previous-generation vehicle, which had totals of 306 and 295. The maximum horsepower remains at 6500 rpm, however the maximum torque is now produced between 2600 and 4000 rpm. While the new CTR has the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as before, Honda made many improvements that resulted in increased power and improved engine response. Among the enhancements are a freer-flowing air intake, a redesigned turbo, and a new exhaust system with an active valve that now opens at higher rpm.
