Some models proved extremely popular, while others came close to failure. Unsurprisingly, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles dominated the sales charts. That said, a handful of passenger cars still managed to stand out.
While cars are not as popular as they once were, there is still strong interest in certain models—most notably the Honda Civic. The Japanese compact sold more than 31,054 units, a slight decrease compared to last year, yet still enough to secure the top spot among passenger cars in Canada for 2025.
The Honda Civic’s success can be attributed to several factors, including its reliability, strong reputation, and excellent value for money. It’s also worth noting that the compact car is assembled right here in Canada at Honda’s Alliston, Ontario plant, making it a source of local pride.
The Honda Civic is a very popular car worldwide, and that is even more true in Canada. It ranked first in car sales for the 26th time in 28 years, which speaks volumes. In fact, it’s not just the Civic that Canadians appreciate—Honda as a brand holds a special place in the hearts of Canadian buyers. With 128,449 vehicles sold, representing a 4 percent increase, the Japanese automaker ranked fifth among the most popular brands in Canada in 2025.
